I’ve been feeling quiet lately. I’ve blogged less. I want to walk in the autumn air, go to the playground, watch the kids squeal. A little boy (a playground ‘regular’) admires O. from anear. She’s delighted and squeals. We took her to the library this evening to replenish the board books, and I got myself […]

Autumn Part Two

Posted by 32poems

Creativity is not apart from life. It IS life.
Peter Levitt says: “Every moment is an opportunity for new expression” and that “whether we are answering the telephone, changing the baby, riding the subway, or writing a poem, we are in touch with the creative source of life itself.” Every moment provides for us a […]

Autumn

We’re headed to the Shenandoahs with friends this weekend. Fall is THE most popular time to visit Shenandoah National Park, so it was happy fortune that helped me find an available 3-bedroom cabin. It was sheer luck! The “cabin” has a hot tub, pool table, stocked kitchen, and fireplace! The weather should be cool enough […]

Poems in Polar Bear Suits

Posted by 32poems

While I totally understand the need for anthologies, I find that I have such a hard time reading them anymore (Best American Poetry aside, which is its own animal). It’s like watching polar bears at the zoo. You keep thinking, “Aren’t they really hot in there? Don’t they want to sleep on something other than […]

Kramfors Sofa

Second, we bought a Kramfors sofa from IKEA. It floats, it’s beautiful, it comes in chocolate-brown leather. The first sofa arrived. You’re supposed to report problems within 48 hours. At hour 47, we noticed that the supports inside the […]

Ah, the mail

Posted by 32poems

I dash out to get the mail as though I’ll find something interesting. A note from my sister, a random 32 subscription, and a lot of material than can be recycled. The UPS and Fedex deliveries have been more exciting. A new camera. A book of poems by Catullus.

Still waiting for my Robert Vasquez […]

Helicopter

Posted by 32poems

Today Olive said “helicopter” and “squirrel.” She said it perfectly — not like a baby. This child-rearing business is wild. I tried using baby signs with her and there’s not much point, because she says what she wants to say.

William Logan reads at Chapter’s Literary book store tomorrow night at 7 pm.

Vultures

Tomorrow, we’re having a group birthday party for the little one. Those of us from town with little ones born August - November 2005 are co-hosting a shindig at a local park. One friend is not able to make it because she has to stick around work for the space shuttle to launch. I hope […]

Start Driving a Buggy

Posted by 32poems

According to Money Magazine, being a professor is one of the top three jobs. The other two are financial planner and software engineer.
Look at this if you are a poet looking for a teaching job. In Lancaster, you could trade your car in for a buggy.
