Green Issue

Posted by deborah

Why bother? That really is the big question facing us as individuals hoping to do something about climate change, and it’s not an easy one to answer. I don’t know about you, but for me the most upsetting moment in “An Inconvenient Truth” came long after Al Gore scared the hell out of me, constructing […]

I’m Very Dumb and Poets for Sale on Ebay

Posted by deborah

I don’t know quite how I did this. I sent poems to a magazine that is currently — according to my submission tracking sheet — already considering poems by me. Well, I guess I like that magazine a lot!
Ugh, I hope no one notices. But they probably will. And they will probably think I’m a […]

Sorry I’m a Poet

Posted by deborah

Seth Godin writes “if your speech needs to be prefaced by an apology…don’t give it.”
Well, folks, that’s what I think about poetry readings.
Have you ever been to a poetry reading with a poet who “counts down” as they read? They’ll say something like: “just three more poems.” Then they say: “just two more poems.” What […]

Poetry Book Reviews

Posted by deborah

Maybe I’ll review more poetry books on my blog. I don’t really want to review. I want to share my thoughts and notes. What should that be called?

Conversations Over Tea

I was talking with M of The Caribbean (good gravy, listen to this music!). (Warning: This will make noise for those of you reading from Cubicle Land.)
As I was saying…
I was talking to M of The Caribbean, and we’re going to have a cross-promotional show of music and poetry. It’ll be in the winter or […]

San Diego and Mountains

Posted by deborah

Today, I’m in the mountains outside of San Diego at a remote and small family-run lodge. We have a cabin with a fireplace and kitchen and are happy as clams.
We plan to hike and take in views of the desert (45 minutes away) and the ocean (one hour away).
I figured after days of […]

Today is for Villanelles - Sylvia Plath

Mad Girl’s Love Song
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary darkness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
