Thanks for stopping by! If you’re new here and want to keep up on poetry and 32 Poems, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Improv theatre has always interested me. Poetry = improv. I don’t know why I did not think about it like that before. Now it seems glaringly obvious that […]

Happy April 1 and NaPoWriMo

Posted by deborah

Everyone in DC feels like they’ve been hit repeatedly with a baseball bat. I don’t know what pollen is around here, but it’s got to be nearly as bad as anthrax.
I wake up every day feeling like I have a hangover, and I’ve not even had the pleasure of drinking the night before. My […]

NaPoWriMo: One Poem Per Day

Posted by deborah

The other day I mentioned that I’m writing one poem per day in December.
It’s December 18th, and I’m on poem #13. Ah, well. Shhh, I’m not perfect. However, the good news is that I have drafted 13 new poems. That is 13 more than I would have written otherwise.
Get thee a group and challenge […]

Oh, No! I Have No Time to Write!

Posted by deborah

I used to think that. In the old days.
After graduation from my MFA program and back when I used a Mac Classic — sigh — I would send emails via AOL to buddies from my writing program. One in particular found me and wanted to stay in touch. I found that a bit odd only […]

NaPoWriMo Report

Posted by deborah

I’ve kept four of the 30 or so poems I drafted in April. I’m not sure any others will make the cut.
—-
It’s a new experience to find my current book “done” and to start working on the next one. Where does one book end and the other book begin?
I did not write a project-style […]

I Always Wanted to Write About Fugu Fish

Posted by deborah

and now Aimee went and did it.
In “Fugu Soup Blues” for example, the reader’s introduced to the toxic porcupine fish, “the only fish/ that can close its eyes.” But the poem moves beyond reportage of facts and into the terrain of people’s attraction to risky behavior, i.e. the consumption of such a dangerous delicacy.

I have […]

I declare June is National Poetry Editing Month. You wrote your NaPoWriMo poems in April, forgot (or are forgetting) them in May and can edit them in June!

Yay, check out C. Dale Young’s poem on Verse Daily today.

Book contract arrived in the mail over the weekend.

Discussed and revised some of the NaPoWriMo poems. One of these days, I’ll figure out how many keepers are in the stack.

Poetry Finds on the Web

Posted by deborah

This new poetry magazine looks interesting. James Grinwis, a 32 Poems contributor, is on the staff. Poetry Mountain is a web site that gives you links to markets. This is a website I want to visit more often.

Here is the updated NaPoWriMo list of poems. I missed April 15, but I was already 2 poems […]

Night: A Fragment

Posted by deborah

I almost thought I’d not get my poem written for today. Technically, I did not since I wrote it at 1 a.m. The tot did not go to sleep until 10 p.m., and I had dishes to prepare for a tea I’m hosting for some Mama Friends. My house is very small, so I plan […]
