Clearing Out Space for Creativity

I don’t feel creative and wonder if it’s because of all of my stuff. When I first saw my place five years ago, I laughed at how packed the attic was with the former people’s boxes. I thought, “I’d never have that much stuff!”

You can guess how that turned out.

Now, I’m drowning.

Today, I followed M’s advice. She said take one box and look through it after some time has passed — maybe a year — and you’ll wonder why you saved certain items. I mean, really. I saved the shipping receipt from when I helped a friend get a special seal (a haque apostille) for her transcript. (I really just wanted to use the term ‘haque apostille’ and, see, I’m doing it again.) Tonight, I ended up with a pile of old articles, receipts (that I don’t even have to shred since all the credit card numbers are different now) and other recyclable odds and ends. Getting rid of it all felt cathartic. Hello, Ms. Recycle Bin!

We’ll see if I get more creative or not.

Okay, it’s 1 am. I am going to die during my 0745 pilates class. Milt, be nice to me!
